1.1 |
The reference to "member" or "membership" in these rules shall mean "associate member" or "associate membership" respectively. |

|
|
| |
1.2 |
An associate member below the age of 65 years shall be eligible to participate in the AUPE Mutual Aid Welfare Scheme II (hereinafter referred to as Scheme II). |

2.1 |
Notwithstanding Regulation 1.2 above, no benefits shall be payable upon the death of the member if: |

(a) |
the member has been a member of the Union for less than 12 months at the time of his death; |
|
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
(b) |
the member had ceased to be a member at the time of his death for whatever reasons; |
|
|
|
| |

| |
|
(c) |
the member is in arrears of subscriptions; and |
|
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
(d) |
the death of the member occurred through suicide, intentional self injury, insanity, intemperance, addiction to drugs, deliberate exposure to needless danger (except in an attempt to save human life), war, invasion or attack of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether declared or not), civil war, rebellion, riot, civil commotion, revolution, insurrection, coups or any other form of military or civil disorder. |

3.1 |
Upon the death of a member the beneficiary shall be the member's nominee registered in the Nominee Register provided that where such nominee is a minor at the time of payment of the benefits due, the benefits shall be paid in trust to his legal guardian or alternatively, to the Public Trustee. |

3.2 |
In the event a member has not nominated a beneficiary, and regardless whether the member dies intestate or not, Section 7 of the Intestate Succession Act on rules of distribution shall apply in the case of a non-Muslim member, and Section 112 of the Administration Law Act on distribution of Muslim estates to be according to Muslim estates shall apply in the case of a Muslim member. |

4.1 |
Subject to the provision of Regulation 2.1 above, the benefits under the Scheme shall be as shown in Table A to Schedule 2 and shall be based on the length of membership of the union:- |

4.2 |
An associate member who ceases to be a member of the union or whose membership is suspended shall automatically cease to be eligible for benefits under the Scheme. Upon the member rejoining the union, his eligibility for benefits under the Scheme shall commence only from the date he became a fully paid-up associate member again. |

| |
|
|
| |
4.3 |
An ordinary member or a general branch member who ceases to be an ordinary member or a general branch member of the Union, as the case may be, for any reason but who rejoins immediately or later on as an associate member with or without any break in membership shall have all benefits due to him under the Scheme calculated as from the date he became an associate member. |

4.4 |
An associate member or general branch member who ceases to be a member of the Union for any reason but who rejoins immediately as an ordinary member without any break in membership shall have all benefits due to him under the Scheme calculated as from the date he became an associate member or general branch member. |

5.1 |
All benefits under this Scheme shall be paid in one lump sum within 30 calendar days of cIaims notification of the death of the member. |

Settlement of

|
|
| |
5.2 |
A beneficiary of a deceased member shall be entitled to only one claim under the Scheme of the items in Table A (2) to the Rules and Regulations. |
|
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
5.3 |
Notwithstanding any other provision in these rules the Committee shall be entitled to withhold payment until such time as it is satisfied with the bona-fides of the claim. |
|
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
5.4 |
In the event of any dispute, settlement shall be withheld until the dispute is resolved by the General Purposes Committee whose decision shall be final. |

6.1 |
All evidence required by the Committee including documentary evidence, in support of the claim shall be furnished by the Claimant at his expense. |
